A documentary intervention on the prevailing customs and traditions of a community called Kambalathu Naicker hailing in the central parts of Tamil Nadu. Out there in wilderness lives this community whose customs of marriages leave you with a larger social understanding. These questionable customs continuously enjoying social approvals in the communities are the focus of this film intervention. The film analyses child marriages and how women and children become victims of religious beliefs and practices.

To marry an Indian living in USA, Canada, Germany, UK or even Libya, is the dream most young girls grow up with in the Doaba region of Punjab. So what if he is older, already married, has children and is out of work? An “NRI” husband is the only escape route from the patriarchy and poverty that restricts the lives of Punjab’s daughters. Most of these girls have never stepped out of their village and cannot speak English. Every Christmas, Indian men living in the West, prospective grooms, descend into Punjab. They will select a young, innocent bride from an array of choices. They are offered competitive dowries, complete with an all-expenses paid honeymoon. More often, once they return back to the West, their young wives, some pregnant, wait for the promised visa in vain. The dream is over. Wild meat hunting and consumption is an integral part of the life of communities in the north east of India. Open wild meat markets exist in different towns and cities across the states. The Wild Meat Trail is a quest to get some insight into the extent of the hunting practices and its place in the current cultural context. It is a journey through the North East of India-travelling from small towns to remote villages, trekking through the wild terrains, participating in village rituals, talking to sellers and consumers- in an attempt to develop some understanding of the state of the wildlife and whether there is another path possible.

They have lived for 80,000 years as hunters- gatherers in the Kalahari Desert, and are well-known for their expert survival skills in a harsh environment. Their unique clicking languages and their astonishing method of healing through trance dancing have made them a source of worldwide fascination. But these peaceful people are not immune from the problems of the modern society, and have faced oppression and eviction from their homelands for years.
