Synopsis :
Shores of Silence is a landmark film for wildlife conservation globally, this film is cited as the only film in the last 70 years that has saved a species, the whale sharks. Nearly 1,200 were being killed on the Indian coastline each year. Shores of Silence is a moving documentation of the cruel and mindless slaughter of these giants. The film succeeded and brought protection to the Whale Shark in India under the Wildlife protection Act of 1972 giving it equal status and protection to the Tiger and the Rhino.Internationally the film helped bring the whale shark under global protection under CITES.
This film won 11 international awards including the most prestigious Wildscreen/Green Oscar. Shores of silence - this film touched the hearts and minds of people bringing in total protection to the whale shark. The campaign helped change the attitude of fishermen who once killed the whale shark. No whale shark has been killed on Indian shores in the last four years.
Today NGOs such as Wildlife Trust of India and WWF use Shores of Silence as a campaign film and have reached over 20 million people all along the coastline. Internationally – the film has been used by Wild Aid International, National Geographic, Shark Institute, Reef watch…. as part of their awareness generating campaigns and appeal for conservation.
