Synopsis : Micha Wald follows the success of his award-winning documentary films with the action drama The Horse Thieves (Voleurs de cheveaux, 2007) The film, breathtakingly photographed by Jean-Paul de Zaetijd, is set in 19th century Europe where two brothers Jakub (Adrien Jolivet) and Vladimir (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet), join the Cossacks to make a living.In a cruel twist of fate the two watch horrified as Jakub’s horse is stolen in front of their eyes by Roman (Grégoire Colin) and Elias (François-René Dupont), brothers who are trying to make a living by stealing horses. A fierce battle to avenge the theft ends in tragedy when Vladimir is killed by Roman and Elias. Jakub, devastated by the loss of his brother, vows to avenge his death. But Roman is a harsh and brutal man, who will stop at nothing to protect his own brother from any harm. They are soon pulled into a bitter and bloody campaign for revenge from which none of them will escape unscathed.The young brothers’ love for each other and their impassioned attempts to keep body and soul together in a cruel and unrelenting world forms the crux of debut director Misha Wald’s moving and emotional drama.
